A standard U-100 insulin syringe is 100 units per ml. Use 50 for a U-50 barrel.

How the math works

  1. 1. Concentration = vial mass ÷ diluent volume. A 10 mg vial with 2 ml of diluent gives 5 mg/ml, or 5,000 mcg/ml.
  2. 2. Draw volume = target amount ÷ concentration. 250 mcg from 5,000 mcg/ml is 0.05 ml.
  3. 3. Units = draw volume × syringe scale. 0.05 ml on a U-100 barrel is 5 units.

Add diluent slowly down the vial wall, let the lyophilized powder dissolve without shaking, and store reconstituted material refrigerated and protected from light.
